Cities

Cities - which are home to more than half the global population and generate 70% of global carbon emissions - have an important part to play in tackling the climate crisis. Cities are also vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, which is why local governments need to commit to ambitious mitigation and adaptation strategies. We need cities that help people thrive and respect the limits of our planet.

Through initiatives such as the One Planet City Challenge, WWF works to increase political leadership, public engagement and innovative solutions to transform cities and ensure their alignment with the 1.5°C goal of the Paris Agreement.

We need all parts of society - not just governments - to support climate solutions. WWF is working with coalitions in countries around the world to take action, increase public support, and engage national governments to build a zero-carbon future together.

Climate Policy
