The need for infrastructure investment in urban areas is clear. Translating those needs into action is anything but. That’s why Germanwatch, a non-profit policy organization, developed a roadmap for moving forward. The result, “Finding the Finance: Financing Climate Compatible Development in Cities,” shines a light on how local governments can raise funding locally. And gives an overview of the international finance landscape that cities can access. According to the report, there is not a one-size-fits-all financing solution that works in every city. But the local context and conditions set the parameters for the instruments to be applied and enforced. And importantly, to succeed, these measures require effective administrative structures and a strong political backing.
