Call for proposals: modelling biodiversity and ecosystem services loss to advance resilience

Posted on March, 21 2023

WWF, Swiss Re Foundation, EY and AXA Research Fund launch a call for proposals in the light of a brand new Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services Scenarios Modelling Initiative that aims to improve biodiversity and ecosystem services. Scientific organizations interested to co-fund or apply for grants for this exciting initiative can do so before May 14, 2023.
Better understanding the impacts of biodiversity loss and ecosystem degradation is crucial for our society and economy. Healthy ecosystems underpin all the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG); and our economies and businesses remain dependent on the robustness of natural assets.

Through the BES Initiative, the organisations jointly call for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (BES) scenarios to be scientifically robust and at the same time practically implementable by governmentsm as well as usable for corporate and business risk identification and risk assessment.

The BES Scenarios Modelling Initiative aims to provide meaningful and quantified BES futures at a highly granular level and agglomerate data to provide globally applicable regional views. They can support identifying expected hot spots of negative impacts of BES loss.

Swiss Re Foundation will lead the Initiative, and together with the enabling partners, allocates the research funds to scientific institutions based on recommendations of an independent jury who will evaluate the proposals.

If your organization would like to become a co-funder of this exciting initiative, please contact Swiss Re  Foundation.

If you are a researcher at a scientific academic institution, you can apply for funding by 14 May 2023.
More information can be found in the downloadable brochure, and on the website: Swiss Re Foundation.  Please note that funding applications are only valid through the official submission template that can be requested here.

Research will start mid 2023, with full findings expected to be published end 2025.
