It is located in the center of the country in the middle of the Andes mountain range. In the future it will be the headquarters for the Parliament of the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR).

In Cochabamba, the Superintendence for Electricity, Municipal Government of Cochabamba, the Elfec power company, the NGO Biodiversity Bolivia and Duralit are undertaking the activity for Earth Hour 2009.

Located in the center of Bolivia, the Department of Cochabamba is strategically located and is a national converging point for roads and highways.

“Cochabamba” comes from the words in quechua “qhucha”, which means lake, and “pampa”, referring to a plain.
