Former Presidents of UN Climate Talks Call for Strong Outcome at COP24: Manuel Pulgar-Vidal, leader of WWF’s global climate and energy practice and former President of COP20, joins with three former COP presidents in issuing a ‘call to arms’ as the COP24 UN climate summit opens in Katowice, Poland on Sunday.

Their Katowice Call says governments must use the COP24 summit to send an “unequivocal message” that all nations will boost their climate plans by 2020, as requested under the Paris Agreement, and accelerate the shift of finance away from fossil fuels.
“What ministers and other leaders say and do in Katowice at COP24 will help determine efforts for years to come and either bring the world closer to meeting the goals of the Paris Agreement – including protecting those most vulnerable to climate change – or push action further down the road. Any delay will only make it harder and more expensive to respond to climate change.”
The statement comes on the opening day of the COP24 UN climate summit in Katowice, Poland, and a day after the ‘G19’ minus the US delivered a strong message of support for global action on climate at the G20 in Buenos Aires.
