Top Tanzanian musician Richard (Rich) Mavoko is the new champion for WWF's Solar for Education (S4E) campaign, an initiative to demonstrate how renewable energy solutions can provide opportunities to advance socio-economic transformation in Africa. Only 15% of Tanzania’s estimated 50 million people have access to electricity and mainly use kerosene which is a health hazard. Without action, the number of people lacking access to electricity is expected to grow to 600 million by 2030. Rich Mavoko will use his links to popular culture especially youth to raise awareness through the S4E campaign to help promote access to renewable and sustainable energy such as solar power. The initiative will show how this can support education efforts across the continent.
