Camera traps set in Mae Wong-Khlong Lan National Park in September have yielded exciting results. Two tigers, a male and a female, were caught on camera traps, set-up as part of tiger population survey efforts in cooperation with park rangers and the Khao Nang Rum Wildlife Research Station.

While a systematic survey will be conducted in November, the preliminary results provide real hope for tiger and prey recovery in the Park, which is located in the Western Forest Complex, one of the best habitats for tigers and their prey in Thailand and the region.

Many other species of tiger prey were also caught on camera, including Asian golden cat (Profelis temminckii), leopard cat (Prionailurus bengalensis), Asiatic black bear (Ursus thibetanus), large Indian civet (Viverra zibetha), hog badger (Arctonyx collaris), porcupine (Hystrix brachyuran), pig-tailed macaque (Macaca leonina), barking deer (Muntiacus muntjak), wild pig (Sus scrofa), guar (Bos gaurus) and Asiatic jackal (Canis aureus).
