WWF Singapore has today released details of their official celebrations for Earth Hour this coming 28th March. The WWF organized celebrations will be taking place at the Botanic Gardens and Esplanade Park where Singaporeans will be able to experience the impressive ‘switch off’ moment in the CBD and Marina Bay areas.

WWF is keen to make it clear that participation is not limited to those free public events, but that Earth Hour is very much an island-wide event to be undertaken anywhere and everywhere possible.

WWF Singapore Managing Director Amy Ho is encouraging people to participate in whatever way they choose, whether at home, in public spaces or at their place of work, and to think beyond the hour. “It is now so close to Earth Hour that we would like to ask everyone in Singapore to think about what they will do on the night. The great thing is that there are no hard and fast rules regarding your participation in Earth Hour, we only ask that you flick that switch and have fun doing whatever you choose to do during that time.”

Amy Ho continues “Earth Hour is about taking simple steps everyday that collectively reduce carbon emissions – from businesses turning off their lights when their offices are empty to households turning off appliances rather than leaving them on standby.”

The official WWF Earth Hour events will include a multimedia presentation of ‘An Inconvenient Truth’, a green carnival, a candlelit picnic and a concert performed by local bands. Earth Hour celebrity ambassador, Nadya Hutagalung and WWF Managing Director, Amy Ho, will make  ‘switch off’ speeches just before the hour of darkness.

The WWF’s Earth Hour is due to be powered by green electricity, thanks to the support of Alpha Bio Fuel who will be providing biodiesel, recycled from waste vegetable oil.
