“Promoting Sustainable Dam Development at River-Basin-Scale in the South Caucasus”, financially supported by the Norwegian government.
This report is an output of a regional pilot project - “Promoting Sustainable Dam Development at River-Basin-Scale in the South Caucasus”, financially supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Norway and implemented by WWF Network in the South Caucasus in close cooperation with WWF Norway. The report includes the following three key studies: (i) the study on freshwater Key Biodiversity Areas in the South Caucasus that are of crucial importance for the conservation of globally and nationally threatened species; (ii) the study on planning and assessment of sustainable hydropower; and (iii) the study on the value of ecosystem services to the hydropower sector. These studies propose substantial and immediate opportunities to improve the governance and management for avoiding further harm to freshwater ecosystems and biodiversity in the South Caucasus.
