Ecotourism in the Heart of Borneo

Posted on noviembre, 27 2013

Ecotourism can simultaneously promote conservation and sustainable development in the Heart of Borneo area.
Ecotourism development is an important element of the Heart of Borneo Initiative. In the HoB Transboundary Action Plan (Strategic Plan of Actions), the government of Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia and Malaysia, agreed to include ecotourism as one of HoB main programs. The objective is to recognize and to protect the value of special natural and cultural places or sites within the HoB area.

Ecotourism in the HoB has its focus on socio economic development within the HoB areas, particulary local community. The HoB community-based ecotourism provides an alternative way to generate income for communities while protecting the natural environment.
