(Gland, Switzerland 1 September 2016) – WWF is pleased to announce that former Peruvian Environment Minister Manuel Pulgar-Vidal has been appointed to lead WWF’s global climate and energy work.Vidal will join WWF around mid-October.
WWF International Director General Marco Lambertini said: "I’m delighted that Manuel, along with other new Practice Leaders will be joining WWF in the coming months. As the president of COP20 in Lima, which preceded Paris, Manuel was a driving force behind the new global climate deal. “He is a fantastic symbol of how government, business and civil society can be brought together around global environmental priorities.
“Manuel’s leadership in environmental policy and management at the very highest levels will be invaluable to WWF and the planet, as we embrace the transition required toward a sustainable future."
Responding to the appointment, Vidal said: "As the new head of WWF’s Climate and Energy Practice, I will continue to lead our collective effort of addressing climate change. The world is facing its greatest challenge in bringing the planet and its people back in harmony. The world also has its greatest opportunity with a new climate deal and a global plan for sustainable development.
“As civil society, we will continue to partner with governments, companies and growing public movements while pushing governments to ensure that they fulfil their vital climate commitments. WWF is well positioned to do this and I am excited to lead WWF's climate team in this important work.”
