This is the second time that the RA Ministry of Nature Protection participated in the ITB International Tourism fair from March 05-09, 2014 in Berlin. The aim of the participation was to promote ecotourism opportunities in the protected areas of Armenia as sustainable tourism destinations from the exhibition stand at the Adventure Travel and Responsible Tourism hall of ITB.

The project was initiated and implemented by Transboundary Joint Secretariat (TJS) and funded by German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) through KfW Development Bank. The project was also supported by WWF and CNF. In the framework of this project a brochure for Protected Areas of Armenia had been published in German and English languages and around 700 copies (350 English and 350 German) were distributed during the fair. A promotional film was also created and presented on the TV screen of the Armenia’s stand.

On March 05 in the framework of the fair Gera Voskanyan, the Partnership and Communications Manager of WWF-Armenia, made a presentation covering general information on Armenia’s protected areas with a specific focus on tourism opportunities of these areas.

ITB Berlin was the world’s largest exhibition for international tourism fair. From March 05 to 09, 2014, 10,147 exhibitors from 189 countries – more than two-thirds of whom came from abroad – were represented in 26 halls which were booked to capacity. Overall, some 114,000 trade visitors (2013: 109,616) was in ITB 2014.
