Progress on the Yaoundé Declaration: DRC

DRC was a recent signatory to the Yaoundé Declaration. It signed up on the Yaoundé declaration in May 2002 during the second conference of Forest Ministers meeting in Yaoundé.
Nonetheless, it has taken swift actions in implementing the Declaration. Chief among these was President Kabila's announcement of his intention to increase the protected areas network to 15% of the country's area.

DRC contains at least 60% of the Congo Basin forests, and is exceedingly diverse in plant and animal species. The country has some of the largest forest areas secured as national parks in the world.
