Celebration of International Biodiversity Day in Azerbaijan

On 18 May 2014 WWF Azerbaijan Country Office organized the International Biodiversity Day awareness campaign in Baku. The purpose of the campaign was to draw the attention of population, especially youth to the wealth of country’s biodiversity, WWF’s efforts on conservation of leopard and other species, as well other intervention areas.
The campaign has been run in two parts - bike action and seminar - photo exhibition. The bike action was hold in cooperation with Nature Friends NGO and up to 30 cyclists with special leopard illustrated T-shirts and “Save our Species!” slogan joined the action causing vivid interest of Baku residents. After the bike action the seminar and photo exhibition was held in the Baku Central Botanical Garden in the open air with participation of representatives of WWF Azerbaijan, Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, Central Botanical Garden, members of Nature Friends NGO, students and mass media.
During the seminar participants were informed about the activities and projects of WWF Azerbaijan. The photo exhibition was dedicated to the rare species and biodiversity of Azerbaijan. At the end of the event the participants organized excursion in the Botanical Garden.
