Did you know...

    • Over 30% of the Earth's surface is covered with forests. They are among the most notable storehouses of biological diversity on the land
    • Forests house over two-thirds of known terrestrial species; they also harbour the largest share of threatened species.
    • 12-15 million hectares of forest are lost each year, the equivalent of 36 football fields per minute.
    • Over the past 50 years, about half the world's original forest cover has been lost, the most significant cause for that being humans beings' unsystematic use of its resources.
    • Deforestation is responsible for 15% of all greenhouse gas emissions
