Reintroduction center of the Caucasian Red Deer, built in "Dilijan" National Park, welcomes its first residents

Posted on May, 12 2018

In March of this year, three Caucasian Red Deer were transferred to the reintroduction center in Dilijan National Park from the Islamic Republic of Iran. Animals were in quarantine for about a month. Two of them are females, and one of them is a male. The transfer of the next group of deer to Armenia is scheduled for the second half of 2018.

Caucasian Red Deer reintroduction program has been initiated by the Ministry of Nature Protection of Armenia and WWF Armenia in 2013.

Financial supporters of the project are: Federal Republic of Germany through KfW  Development Bank, WWF Germany, Caucasus Nature Fund (CNF), Transboundary Joint Secretariat (TJS) and HSBC Bank Armenia.

Within the framework of the program, in Dilijan National Park a Breeding Centre including an enclosure for the Red Deer in the area of 10 ha was established and equipped with appropriate technical and human resources.
