Change needed for Lima climate talks

Posted on November, 23 2013

The UN climate talks in Lima Peru 2014 are a key chance to change track after the failure of the 2013 climate talks in Warsaw, Poland, where WWF and other environmental groups walked out in protest against industrial influence, a lack of urgency from governments and backtracking on previous commitments from Japan and Australia.
WWF says negotiators must act on key issues such as funding the fight against forest loss and steering a path to a fair agreement in Paris France 2015, where a new global agreement on climate change has to be signed. With other organisations WWF has requested negotiators in Lima and Paris end dirty corporate sponsorship, guarantee active participation by civil society organisations and make concrete progress towards an equitable agreement in 2015.
