The World Economic Forum (WEF) annual meeting in Davos came to a close today, and never have environmental issues featured so highly on the agenda!
 
Earlier in the week, legendary naturalist and WWF ambassador Sir David Attenborough took to the stage calling on global leaders to take action to protect the natural world, in conversation with Prince William.
 
“We have to recognise that every breath of air we take, every mouthful of food we take comes from the natural world. And that if we damage the natural world, we damage ourselves…We have the power. We have the knowledge to actually live in harmony with nature” he said.
 
We are currently destroying our planet faster than ever, but its fate is not a done deal. We are at a critical point where the actions we take now have the potential to put us on the path towards a better future. We know that current efforts to protect nature are failing because they are not ambitious enough to match the scale of the threat the planet is facing.
 
We need political and business commitment at the highest level. That’s why WWF and other organizations are urgently pushing for a new Deal for Nature and People - a coordinated, global plan of action to protect the planet.
 
World leaders are starting to understand the environmental time bomb we face. Davos couldn’t care less about the environment decades ago. Today, the Davos crowd knows that ignoring the environment is no longer an option. CEOs and political leaders talked a good game this week. As Davos wraps up, the need for action has never been greater. The time to act is now.
