Green Armenia Book Presentation

On October 19, the presentation of “Green Armenia” book took place in the Institute of Botany of National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia. The book was published in the frames of the EU funded component of the FLEG II program.
On October 19, the presentation of “Green Armenia” book took place in the Institute of Botany of National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia. The book was published in the frames of the EU funded component of the FLEG II program.

The book “Green Armenia” is dedicated to the plants, the inhabitants of forests and related plant communities of Armenia. It has been developed in the frames of WWF-Armenia’s activities with the efforts of Armenian Botanical Society NGO.

The event was opened by Mr. Zhirayr Vardanyan, Director of the Institute of Botany. He thanked all the scientists, researchers and biologists, who participated in the book preparation and publication.  
First Deputy Minister of Nature Protection Mr. Simon Papyan noted the great significance of the publication for Armenia as well as mentioned its high informational content.  Deputy Director of “Hayantar” SNCO Mr. Ruben Petrosyan noted: “The book is very practical and user friendly, so it can be useful for everyone – students, teachers, scientists, amateurs, etc”. Director of WWF-Armenia Mr. Karen Manvelyan told about the whole process of “Green Armenia” book creation. He emphasized the importance of teamwork as the authors’ team included both local and foreign scientists-researchers.   

The presentation was held in a very warm and friendly atmosphere where all the guests had an opportunity to exchange impressions and express themselves.  

Awareness raising is one of the most important components of the FLEG II program. In the frames of the program many publications were published and disseminated showing the value of forests in Armenia in terms of biodiversity and their importance for local population. The European Union funded FLEG II Program aims to support the participating countries strengthen forest governance through enhancing their forest policy, legislation and institutional arrangements, and implementing sustainable forest management models on a pilot basis. The program is implemented by the World Bank, IUCN and WWF.
