During October 2014 in the frames of a national level drawing youth contest under the annual FSC Friday WWF-Armenia made selection of 12 winner drawings in 6 schools of Armenia. The initiative in Armenia is implemented by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) for CIS Countries and WWF-Armenia.

Earlier in September the contests were announced in the schools of the communities Saramej, Lernantsq, Dovegh, Barekamavan and Tatev (Lori, Tavush and Syunik Regions) and “Mkhitar Sebstatsi” Educational Complex (Yerevan).

In some schools the selection was organized in the form of events with participation of the drawing participants, school teachers and administrations. Two events were organized jointly with financial support of the EU funded Forest Transformation Project implemented by WWF in Saramej and Lernantsq communities adjacent to the project pilot sites. These joint events included presentations on the EU funded project results, discussions and award ceremonies. The winners and contest participants were awarded with special prizes.

All participants from all 6 schools received communications materials from WWF-Armenia as well as the postcards and stickers provided by FSC for CIS Countries. Later the FSC for CIS Countries will award the winners with special prizes. Please see the winner drawings here.

The selected drawings will participate in the final contest in Moscow. At least 2 works from Armenia will be included in the Official FSC CIS Country Calendar for 2015. A national level calendar with all 12 winner drawings is under publication.

FSC Friday is a global celebration of the world's forests and aims to highlight the importance of responsible forest management. Every year, schools, businesses, individuals, forest owners/managers and other organizations around the world get involved in spreading the word about FSC and responsible forestry. FSC is an international non-profit organization dedicated to promoting responsible forestry. FSC certifies forests all over the world to ensure they meet the highest environmental and social standards.
