What?

Cities and sub-national authorities across Europe are frontrunners on both climate and energy action.

At this joint ICLEI Europe/WWF European Policy Office event, Mayors and senior representatives of the cities of Sienna, Zagreb and Warsaw will showcase their ambitious work in the field of renewable energy and energy efficiency and share their best practices. They will highlight what opportunities renewable energy and community-led energy initiatives provide in their local context, and how they can be replicated in Europe at both higher and lower level of governance, if supported by ambitious EU climate and energy policies.

Relevant policy makers and stakeholders will join the debate and explore how renewable energy and energy efficiency can support and trigger both economic and social sustainable development.

The event is aimed at local, national and European political decision-makers who guide and support the sustainable energy roll-out in Europe.

This policy event’s objective is to provide a platform for exchange on the Climate and Energy Package 2030 under discussion, with a special focus on renewable energies and their impact and benefit at cities and community level. At this event, ICLEI Europe and WWF European Policy Office will present a joint call for action for ambitious and binding targets on greenhouse gas emissions reduction, renewable energy and energy efficiency.

Panel discussion with presentations of highlights and best practices, moderated by Holger Robrecht, ICLEI Europe

How will the new EU climate and energy package 2030 impact - both positively and negatively - on climate and energy actions at your level (EU/ national/regional/ local)? What does the local/regional level need and what can the European and international level offer to support cities’ ambitious actions?
