Growing concern about unsustainable harvesting of mangrove forests in Fiji called for a national campaign to raise awareness about the important ecological and protective function mangroves play and remove the label of wasteland.

Fijian President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau backed up the value of mangroves, identifying this natural resource as a gift that must be protected by all.
