For our Global Climate and Energy Initiative (GCEI) team, we are looking for a qualified:

Coordinator - Energy Access, Global Climate and Energy Initiative (GCEI)

WWF is looking for a highly motivated and engaged person to coordinate our work mainly in Asia and Africa on universal clean, affordable and reliable access to energy. The person shall be working with our national organisations in some countries like India, Nepal, Uganda, South Africa and Madagascar, to support and coordinate our existing programs and bring the overall policy work to have governments agree on phasing out energy poverty by 2030 latest on a higher level, both in international context and with national governments.

Main responsibilities:

• Develops and drives both internally and externally a convincing positive developmental narrative on the move to clean, sustainable energies to provide universal access to energy for all in developing countries by 2030.
• Focuses on energy access in key emerging developing and LDC countries. Initial focus will be on support for WWF work in India, Nepal, Uganda, Madagascar and collaboration with other players such as Energy+ and SEFA as appropriate as well as partners of WWF active in that policy field such as Barefoot College, India.
• Inputs, as appropriate, to international energy access debates and fora such as IPCC and IEA.
• Provides capacity building and briefings for the network on clean energy access
• Ensures synergies wherever possible in the GCEI and WWF network particularly with the Low Carbon Framework, the emerging Finance and the energy access team.

What you need:

Required Qualifications, Skills and Competencies

• Educational Qualifications: University degree in social or development or energy-related topics.
• Experience: At least 3-5 year direct experience on energy access projects and policy for the poor in developing countries.
• Capable of networking closely with the various WWF policy and field programmes and support the creation and maintenance of national and international partnerships with NGOs, businesses, UN-organisations, donors and others to form strong alliances.
• Expert Knowledge of public key debates, challenges and facts on energy access such as the UN and other multinational organisations.
• International experience and experience working in cross-cultural teams and/or multinational environments.
• Strong understanding of social issues of poor communities in developing countries and the fundamental role clean renewable energy can play to provide improved and sustainable livelihoods for the poor
• Familiarity with gender, poverty, natural resources, economic and equity issues of the poor in developing countries, which all affect the success and progress on overcoming energy poverty.
• High performance orientation and ability to work in virtual team structures.
• Experience in Project Management.
