Climate Forum East (CfE) II aims to build the capacity of civil society to engage with policy-making and contribute to the political agenda in environmental governance and climate change. The project is being implemented in six countries - Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and the Ukraine. WWF in Ukraine provides expert support and coordinates to the project efforts in Moldova, Ukraine and Belarus. The project phase I has been successful, so the project was continued.

Phase I results:

  • National networks of NGOs working on climate change adaptation were established or strengthened in all six countries; they include totally up to 80 member organizations;
  • The networks have lobbied for the need of climate change adaptation in their countries;
  • Each country has prepared a national survey of vulnerability to climate change;
  • In Ukraine the survey included city vulnerability assessment methodology that partner NGOs applied in four cities (Uzhgorod, Lviv, Khmelnytsky and Odessa). This experience can then be used in any city of Ukraine.

Phase II objective

To further increase capacity of 6 existing national networks to contribute to national and local policy making processes, public awareness raising and education on Climate Change and environmental governance in the Eastern Neighbourhood Region.

Expected results

During the 2.5 years of the phase II the NGOs member networks will be able to:
  • receive the expert coaching and support for the their potential development;
  • develop adaptation plans for vulnerable to climate change areas and to implement pilot projects there together with local activists;
  • receive support for a national awareness campaign and educational work on climate change adaptation using the experience of the phase I and pilot projects;
  • have an experience exchange with colleagues from the Eastern Partnership countries.
