From 20 - 31 March 2006 the 8th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP8) took place in Curitiba, Brazil. COP 8 was expected to be a key meeting to review how the Convention has been implemented since 1992 and how to make the CBD more effective in the coming years.
But at the end of the Eighth Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP8), WWF resumed that a lack of political will and divisions between industrialized and developing countries over future funding resources have significantly slowed down progress of the convention.
