You can take part in the biggest climate prediction experiment ever!

If you have a computer you can now support the world's biggest climate prediction experiment ever undertaken.

Climateprediction.net has been running for two years but is now equipped with new software which makes the climate models even more sophisticated. It will help to forecast impacts of climate change in more detail then is possible now.

Everyone who owns a computer can participate in the experiment. A network of thousands of computers all around the globe will help caclulate the complicated climate models. Participants download software onto their personal computers which run the program when the machine is idle.

The newest, most sophisticated computer software has been launched this week in cooperation with the BBC.

"The main change in this model is that it uses a fully dynamic ocean," said the project's chief scientist David Stainforth from Oxford University. "Previous versions used a very simplified ocean, whereas this one allows us to see how the atmosphere and the ocean interact," he told the BBC News website.

"WWF is happy to support the experiment and make the information available to its members and supporters around the world," says Lara Hansen, chief scientist of WWF's global climate change programme.
