More than 10,000 delegates from government, business, and civil society gathered in Montreal for the jointly held 11th Conference of the Parties of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and the first Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol.

More than 10,000 delegates from government, business, and civil society met in Montreal, Canada, for the jointly held 11th Conference of the Parties of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and the first Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol, known as COPMOP1.

WWF called on the governments meeting in Montreal to set commitments for lower greenhouse gas emissions after 2012.

Real progress was finally made as governments finalized the ground rules for the first phase of the Kyoto Protocol and set the stage for discussions to further cut carbon emissions after 2012.

Ministers agreed to start the talks that will deliver the deeper reductions of carbon emissions that WWF has been promoting. The deal also opened the door to broader participation from developing countries in the future.
