100 fervent defenders of agroecology with spades in hand contributing to the reforestation of Madagascar: such is the image of a reforestation campaign organized by GSDM, a group of professionals in agroecology of which WWF is a member. The campaign was held on Saturday, February 17 in the region of Itasy, near Antananarivo.

700 acacia trees were planted as a result of this campaign, placed right in the middle of an existing cultivation of manioc trees. “Being an association which values agroecology, it is important for GSDM to plant trees without giving up on existing cultivations, like the maniocs, which represent a source of revenue for local communities. So we wanted to plant the two species together,” Fidy, one of the participants, explained regarding the reforestation.

Reforestation is of great importance not only for the environment in general, but also for agricultural land. Where there are trees, we have more fertile soils for our crops. So, let’s plant and reforest!
