The Director of the WWF European Policy Office (EPO), Geneviève Pons, today announced departure from the role. This decision follows her evaluation of her professional and personal objectives after more than two years at the helm of EPO.

“Under my leadership, EPO has achieved some critical targets. Not only did we succeed in raising the profile of the organisation within the EU institutions, ensuring access at the highest levels, but I also focussed on integrating the objectives of the EPO with those of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda. In addition, I facilitated the move of the EPO offices to new premises that allowed greater access to EU institutions in Brussels and more effective operations. I feel that on the back of these achievements, this is a good time for me to move on, and I am confident to be leaving the team on the right track to continue the good work,” said Pons.

“EPO is at the heart of WWF’s strong and unique network of national offices, and it has been a pleasure and a privilege to be part of this amazing organisation and to lead such a great team of dedicated and passionate people persistently striving to make a difference. I am grateful for this experience, and I will continue to take a strong personal interest in WWF’s endeavours to help put Europe firmly on the path towards genuine sustainable development.”

Following her departure, Geneviève Pons will pursue new professional challenges with the Jacques Delors Institute, developing its knowledge and actions in the field of environment and sustainable development, contributing to the debate on the future of Europe, and teaching European matters to both students and journalists inside the Institute’s newly created Academy.

“In this exciting new role, I look forward to continuing a fruitful cooperation with WWF,” she added.

As of 1 October 2017, current Deputy Director Dr Andrea Kohl will take on the role of acting Director of WWF EPO.
