Earth Hour - Bhutan Highlights

This Earth Hour.. Let us use our power.. to protect this World - Hour by Hour

In observing the Earth Hour in Bhutan today, an Earth Hour music video crafted by young up-and-coming Bhutanese musicians, was released! The video urges everyone to join the global effort and offer their love and support for our only home – the Planet Earth! Please Enjoy!

In line with this year’s Earth Hour theme of Shine A Light On Climate Action, we also set up our second School Climate Science Centre in Genekha Lower Secondary School with support of Bhutan’s Hydro-Met Services Centre. As a tangible legacy of Earth Hour, WWF Bhutan envisions to set up One School Climate Centre, Every Earth Hour across the country. The first centre was set up during last year’s Earth Hour in remote Dungkar school in Lhuntse District.

The science centre will allow students to measure the daily weather, learn about the environment and discuss climate change. This is also part of WWF Bhutan’s vision to empower the youth to reach their full potentials through caring for conservation and develop a genuine appreciation for nature.

Royal Thimphu College also embraced the darkness of Earth Hour 2017 by asking students, faculty and staff to join millions around the world to switch off the lights for one hour to raise awareness on climate change. In solidarity, the college shut off all the lights on campus and everyone gathered around a bonfire.
