At the end of last March, WWF Madagascar had the opportunity to present Madagascar's commitment to preserve its green infrastructure in the prestigious Natural Capital Symposium, held in Palo Alto-California (USA). Indeed, Madagascar is committed to preserving the network of protected areas, community-managed areas and restoration areas at both land and marine environments.

The objective is to conserve the unique biodiversity that this network protects but also to maintain or even restore ecosystem services (water, wood, food, microclimate etc.) that it produces for the wellbeing of communities’ that depend on them and support existing economic activities or planning in several growth areas identified by the government.

The symposium provided an opportunity for exchanges with global experts on natural capital to strengthen the technical aspects of this initiative with a view to developing a national plan for the protection of this green belt, which is essential for the well-being of Malagasy People.
