Indigenous groups from the Amazon Region, under the leadership of the Coordinating Body for the Indigenous Peoples’ Organizations of the Amazon Basin (COICA), are going to participate at the Climate COP 21 to present advances in the implementation of the Amazon Indigenous REDD+ proposal.

The Amazon Indigenous REDD+ proposal was launched last year at the UNFCCC COP 20 in Lima, Peru. Since then, indigenous groups and organizations from Peru, Colombia and Ecuador  responsible for the implementation of pilot projects in these countries are working intensively and participating in different climate talks discussing the proposal that aims to guarantee social and environmental safeguards, an efficient and equitable distribution of benefits and correspondingt financial mechanisms for indigenous REDD+ in the Amazon.
