The Regional Green Economy Coordinator position is full-time and based in either Budapest, Bucharest or Sofia. The deadline for applying is 17 August, 2015. 

Here is a detailed description of the position:
 
The Regional Green Economy Coordinator would contribute to the WWF mission in general and to the WWF regional objectives in particular through supporting, preparing and implementing Green Economy projects and driving Green Economy policy formulation and advocacy at the regional level. This includes identifying ways in which switching to a 100% renewable energy future can be achieved while maintaining biodiversity and ecosystem services in the Danube-Carpathian Region. It furthermore entails advocacy work for greening public and private investment and for phasing out harmful subsidies, The Regional Green Economy Coordinator is also expected to provide support to WWF´s field projects by identifying ways of sustainable socio-economic development in and around well-managed Protected Areas.
 
The Green Economy Coordinator will join the WWF Danube Carpathian Programme (WWF DCP) team, report to the Regional Conservation Director and will be based in one of our offices in Budapest, Sofia or Bucharest.
 
Your duties will include:
A. Strategy and Work plan Development
  • Facilitate and guide the development of Green Economy components of DCP´s regional Strategic Plan and national workplans
  • Provide technical comment and input to related policy documents of WWF
B. Fundraising and proposal writing
  • Develop proposals to donors, working and collaborating with essential regional partners, and support national level fundraising
  • Support development of business models for income generating activities within and around protected areas
C. Advocacy, Partnership Development, and Networking
  • Represent the organization in relevant international forums such as conferences, symposiums, and relevant government and community meetings and workshops (including responsible business forums) to communicate and promote our work with private and public sectors and donors
  • Engage with governmental institutions at international level to advise on and advocate for WWF Green Economy approaches
  • Support national Green Economy advocacy work
 
D) Staff development and knowledge management
  • Support WWF DCP´s capacity building efforts on Green Economy issues by coaching and mentoring colleagues and contributing to the design of relevant training programmes and events
  • Facilitate the exchange of Green Economy knowledge both within DCP and with other WWF offices and the external expert and practitioners community
  • Champion on-going learning in the Green Economy team, via structured knowledge-sharing and training initiatives
 
E) Project management and implementation
  • Support implementation of ongoing projects related to Green Economy (e.g. PES, Ecosystem Service Assessments, innovative sustainable financing for nature conservation and climate measures) at regional level
  • Advise DCP project teams working on Green Economy issues
  • Depending on needs, supervise, manage or support future Green Economy projects
 
F) Research and Analysis
  • Contribute to preparation of national, and landscape scale assessments of ecosystem services;
  • Contribute to the development of innovative approaches in the field of  Green Economy;
  • Feed up relevant research and analyses on Green Economy and Ecosystem Services to the national, regional and global level 
  1. Communications
  • Work in close coordination with the WWF DCP regional communication team as well as across the network to communicate issues and achievements to defined target audiences.
  • Produce knowledge products demonstrating how Green Economy is supporting conservation in the DCP region 
We expect from you:

  1. Knowledge:
  • MSc in Economics; a degree in Environmental Economics would be an asset
  • 5 years relevant work experience as an economist
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of ecosystem services concepts, PES and/or other economic instruments for the protection, restoration and maintenance of ecosystems and their services
  • Understanding of conservation, economics and natural resource management issues in the Danube-Carpathian Region 
  1. Experience
  • Experience in coordinating/working with diverse international teams
  • Experience in engaging with high-level government officials
  • Experience in proposal writing for large projects
  • Experience in social/community development work and/or policy advocacy in a project and/or people management function with a focus on environmental economics 
  1. Skills and Abilities:
  • Ambition, energy and drive, with a commitment to making a difference
  • Excellent interpersonal and team playing abilities
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills in English and one other language of the region
  • Good track record/proven abilities of influencing change and improvement in diverse audiences (including outside of direct reports)

  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Ability to work in an international environment and within a multi-cultural team
