            SENIOR SPATIAL PLANNING OFFICER, WWF-MYANMAR
 
As a part of World Wide Fund for Nature – Greater Mekong, WWF-Myanmar was established in 2014 with the aim to support Myanmar’s development ambitions with a focus on spatial planning and biodiversity conservation in parallel with ecosystem services protection and sustainable livelihoods. WWF-Myanmar is now inviting applications for the position of Senior Spatial Planning Officer based in Yangon, Myanmar with frequent travel outside of Yangon.
 
Major Function
 
The Senior Spatial Planning Officer  will lead in establishing and maintaining the technical foundation and competencies for spatial data acquisition and management, natural capital assessments, spatial analysis, spatial mapping and planning, and monitoring of the above.  They will be responsible for ensuring effective coordination and collaboration with partners on WWF-Myanmar’s spatial planning and ecosystem services objectives and ensuring this work meaningfully connects and enhances related work on forest and other land management, sustainable production, climate change adaptation, corridor management, and ecosystem integrity monitoring.
He/she will then:
  • Lead for all technical issues related to the delivery of ecosystem service mapping and spatial planning in Taninthayi region and is responsible for designing, technically leading, and monitoring elements of the WWF-Myanmar Conservation Programme workplan.
  • Lead the management and timely completion of planned spatial analysis projects ensuring coordination and communication with relevant contact points.
  • Coordinate (with WWF’s Natural Capital project team and others) the selection and application of InVEST models at the National and Dawna Tenasserim Landscape (DTL) levels.
  • Coordinate the establishment of a spatial optimization platform (using Marxan or similar standard open-source optimization software). Manage related capacity-building and information development so that this resource is frequently updated.
  • Provide technical expertise to develop and implement programmes and projects at the country level, including supervision of field-activities where appropriate
  • Lead in the coordination and communication for WWF-Myanmar’s engagement on the Dawei Development Project.
  • Develop standard map templates for all geographic areas where WWF works in Myanmar and the wider DTL to facilitate more rapid delivery of commonly used maps and datasets covering standard geographic extents.
  • Oversee the development of a WWF-Myanmar spatial data repository and work to formalize agreements and information-sharing arrangements with other partners as appropriate.
  • Build and maintain strategic partnerships with external organizations and agencies..
Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in GIS, spatial planning, natural resources, environmental management, development studies, or other relevant technical fields
  • Expert knowledge in landscape conservation, spatial planning, and climate change issues
  • Experience of working in a multi-cultural environment and with key regional and international institutions e.g. ADB, JICA, FAO, UNDP
