JOB DESCRIPTION
 
Position title:                       Aquaculture Officer (Long-term Consultant)
Reports to:                          Project Manager
Supervises:                         Supervises other aquaculture officers, private sector partners, consultants, interns, and volunteers on aquaculture related work
Location:                            Based in Can Tho, with regular travel to other Mekong Delta provinces and occasionally to other provinces in Vietnam
Date:                                    From June 2015 – 31 December 2015 (possibility to extend)
 
Background:WWF was one of the first International non-government organizations working in Vietnam. In 1985, WWF began working on a national conservation strategy and since then has worked closely with the Vietnamese Government on a diverse range of environment issues and implemented field activities across the country.

The project “Promoting better management practices, ASC certification and selling products though establishing supply chains of responsible shrimp aquaculture in the Mekong delta of Vietnam” is to promote shrimp sustainable growth by closely working with farmer groups/cooperatives and small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Based on the experience, WWF will mobilize its network of EU buyers to drive promoting sustainable practices through the progressive requirement of the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) Shrimp Standard.
Major Functions:The consultant will support to WWF efforts on responsible aquaculture, particularly for shrimp aquaculture projects and programme.  
Major Duties and Responsibilities:

To support and coordinate the Farmers in Transition (FIT – Shrimp) Project  to ensure the project operate properly and successfully under technical support by the Project manager.
To support other WWF projects related to aquaculture, liaise with a wide range of stakeholders involved in aquaculture including producers, traders, exporters, retailers, other resource users in addition to members of national and international organizations
To organize meetings and workshops supporting to the Aquaculture Program
To assist the implementation of studies on responsible aquaculture
To collect and compile information on aquaculture in Vietnam and globally
To advice/develop strategies/practices for the responsible production of aquaculture commodities
To assist in the organizing training courses and developing of extension material on responsible aquaculture
To develop workplans, reports and articles of WWF activities on aquaculture
To assist in seeking funds to expand the WWF Aquaculture Program
To perform administrative and secretarial tasks (including translations to and from English) supporting the WWF Aquaculture Program
Other activities of relevance to the Aquaculture Program

Profile:Required Qualifications       
A BSc degree or higher in fisheries, aquaculture or related subjects
A minimum of 3-year experience working on aquaculture in Vietnam
Proven understanding of issues of relevance to responsible aquaculture including environment and social issues
Experience in shrimp, tilapia or pangasius farming as advantage
Links with the aquaculture private sector
Previous working experience with international organizations
Enthusiasm and motivationRequired Skills and Competencies
Fluent English and Vietnamese language skills
Networking & Team work skills
Good using Microsoft office and statistics software
Good reporting, communications and negotiation skills
Good planning, organization, time management, facilitation and coordination skills
Fluency in written and spoken English

Working Relationships:Internal:
Interact frequently with WWF staff including WWF Vietnam’s Marine Programme, WWF Vietnam, WWF Greater Mekong as well as the WWF network staff to present/ exchange experience in aquaculture work in Vietnam and globally;
External:
Actively contact with related stakeholders, including Government agencies at national and local levels, private sectors (farmers, processors, exporters, retailers, etc.), international and local NGOs working on related issues, donors.
