::: European cities hot up :::

Posted on August, 16 2005

As European cities swelter in the summer heatwave, a new report from WWF analyzing summer temperature data from 16 EU cities shows that some of the continent's capitals have warmed by more than 2 degrees C in the past 30 years.

The WWF report highlights the likelihood of even hotter summers in Europe's cities, along with more frequent and intense heatwaves, droughts as average temperatures increase.

WWF stresses that the powersector  -- repsonsible for 37% of man-made CO2 emissions  -- has fuelled a major part of this hike in temperatures.
