WCP trains nomads on biomass energy use

To sensitize nomads on the destruction of the hardy Rhododendron and other shrubs and its adverse effects on forests and wildlife, Wangchuck Centennial Park (WCP) successfully conducted two-day training on biomass fuel production and use of biomass-based cooking stoves for 35 nomads from Chhokhor Geog (block.

The training was conducted in collaboration with the Watershed Management Division (WMD) of the Department of Forests and Park Services (DoFPS). The Project was funded by USAID under the Asia High Mountains through WWF Bhutan Program.

During the training, nomads learnt how to produce biomass cakes and use cooking stoves and charcoal grinding machines. The training also aims at helping nomads generate income from sale of Bio-briquette to hikers, trekkers and tourists in future.
