Biodiversity Conservation Corridors

Posted on February, 01 2008

The economy and the environment are mutually dependent. Greater Mekong Subregion countries are investing US $31 billion into their peoples’ economic future. How will they secure a sustainable return on this investment?

Biodiversity conservation corridors (BCI) are uninterrupted areas of forest and other habitats rich in biodiversity that link protected areas. BCI works to restore these corridors to maintain biodiversity and the services these healthy natural habitats provide to people and the economy.

Biodiversity Conservation Corridor Initiative:

  • Reduces poverty
  • Harmonises land management and governance regimes
  • Restores ecosystem connectivity
  • Builds local, national and regional capacity for sustainable ecosystem management
  • Secures sustainable financing
