Father Cipriano Barace established a Jesuit mission, and in 1686 founded the city, which today is known as Trinidad, in commemoration of the first Sunday after Pentecost (locally known as “Fiesta de la Santísima Trinidad”). The annual celebration is lively with wide participation among the local population, who enthusiastically organizes folkloric parades wearing traditional masks accompanied by typical dances and music.
