C2C: Conflict to Coexistence Approach
A GLOBAL APPROACH TO MANAGE HUMAN-WILDLIFE CONFLICT
The C2C: Conflict to Coexistence approach is an integrated, stepwise approach to enable systematic human wildlife conflict management planning, implementation, and monitoring. The objectives of the framework and its approach are as follows:
-
To provide clear, stepwise guidance for effective management of human wildlife conflict
-
To facilitate integrated and holistic approaches to human wildlife conflict management by encouraging long-term solutions coupled with short-term and intermediate results
-
To provide a template for managing human wildlife conflict effectively with the flexibility to tailor to different scales and contexts across different regions
Guidelines: C2C Conflict to Coexistence approach Factsheet: C2C Conflict to Coexistence approach in a nutshell CONFLICT TO COEXISTENCE FRAMEWORK
The C2C: Conflict to Coexistence Framework above illustrates:
- Its four assumptions for effective human wildlife conflict management;
- Its four outcomes (People able and willing to live alongside wildlife; Livelihoods/assets secured against presence of wildlife; Wildlife thrives alongside human presence; and Habitat sufficient to maintain viable wildlife populations.);
- Its six human wildlife conflict management elements; and
- Its four guiding principles for implementation.
CONFLICT TO COEXISTENCE METHODOLGY
The C2C methodology for responding to current or emerging human wildlife conflict issues is a continuous process through which a longer-term human wildlife conflict management strategy is developed together with communities and other stakeholders.
