Introduction to the programme
WWF 's West African Marine Ecoregion (WAMER) programme started in 2000 and is run from Dakar, Senegal. It is designed to address critical marine biodiversity and fisheries issues in the ecoregion.

The project consists of 4 modules and a strong communications element. These modules are:

Communications
A comprehensive Communications Strategy has been implemented, with WWF WAMER creating an Environment and Press Group (EPG), which includes journalists and environmental experts.

This group is kept informed of developments and findings, meets regularly, and works on an action plan targeting the communication of specific marine problems, for which each cause has been identified and solutions proposed.
