More than 40 officials from the National Systems of Protected Areas from Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia, and Peru participated in the final meeting of the course "Protected Areas of the Amazon biome as opportunities for conservation and adaptation to changing climate scenarios", promoted by the Amazon Vision projects – NASCC & IAPA.
 
During the past few months, participants took the course in order to improve their knowledge about Amazon protected areas’ role as opportunities for conservation and adaptation to climate change within the Amazon biome in the framework of CBD modules.
 
This meeting was held in the National Park Cotapata, Bolivia. It was an opportunity to address the main findings of the training, reaffirm the knowledge acquired and promote the generation of information aligned with the Amazon Vision projects’ objectives. Participants led a space of dialogue and analysis about the ways to face different problems in the Amazon countries protected areas, and the international political environment related to protected areas and climate change.
 
As one of the conclusions of the event, participants recognized the importance of including climate change issues in protected areas’ management plans. The urgency to generate greater legitimacy of these areas through participation of protected areas actors in the participatory creation of development plans was also highlighted.
 
The interaction of protected areas actors of the Amazon biome through spaces such as trainings and joint work; creation of links between countries and institutions for a better understanding on how to address the challenges, were the main highlights of the event.
