Something about me

I am 24 years old and a biology student at the University of Victoria on the West coast of Canada. I have a degree in Physical and Health Education form Laurentian University, I have taught leadership on remote backpacking courses in the coast range mountains of the Yukon. In the city I am a care giver at a group home for five fabulous women. I love to travel and explore nature, cultures and differences. My insatiable drive for adventure, my curiosity with the world and my need to conserve natural diversity brought me to WWF Madagascar.
It was hard to know what to expect when I left my fiance, friends, family, and work behind to go live in Madagascar for three months with five strangers. The list of pre-trip worries was long, but the potential for great adventure and discovery kept me focused and driven as I braved a barrage of vaccinations, paper work and general packing and planning. All worries were washed away in the first weeks as I got to know the five other enthusiastic volunteers, many warm and welcoming WWF employees and the enchanting Malagasy people. I knew right away that my world view was evolving.

The spiny forest and its people

The Malagasy people have profoundly changed and inspired me. They live in one of the most unique and wonderful places on earth. Against great challenges they are fighting everyday to secure the future of their spiny forest. The current generation of children may prove to be the most potent driving force yet. With their determination and the ongoing support and guidance of the WWF the spiny forest will flourish again. My hope is to be able to return to see it.
