Nairobi, Kenya – November 20, 2013 – "Africa’s youth can be at the forefront of sustainable development of the continent. However, they need to come together and work from a common platform if this is to be realized," says Niall O'Connor, WWF's Director for Eastern & Southern Africa. This is why WWF, the world’s largest conservation organization, embarked on the development of a Pan African Youth Strategy on Learning for Sustainability. This strategy will be launched on November 20, 2013 in Nairobi Kenya.
Present at the strategy launch will be representatives from the Ministry of Devolution & Planning, Ministry of Education, UNESCO, and WWF. In addition, a Discussion Panel has been organized as a build up activity to the launch between prior to the launch. It is a platform for the youth to engage with leaders, focusing on youth empowerment, and their role in contributing towards green economies and sustainable development.
During the Pan African Youth Conference, held on January 30 – 31, 2013 in Nairobi, over 100 youth from over 35 countries in Africa called for support for the implementation of this youth strategy. They want to contribute towards building green economies for the sustainable development of Africa.
