Deforestation

Deforestation brings along negative impacts that affect the environment and human beings, such as:
  • Increase of global warming
  • Decrease of flora and fauna
  • Water pollution
  • Direct damage to communities that live in forests
  • Malnutrition, hunger and diseases
  • Migration
  • Disordered colonization
  • Increase of plagues
Causes of forest deforestation
  • Changes in the use of soil
  • Taking apart mountains or burning lands
  • Illegal activities related to wood
  • Mining and oil exploitation

Although it is impossible to stop deforestation in a predictable future, many opportunities to minimize and control its negative impacts exist. One of them is the adoption of environmental policies by public institutions and businesses, interested in their local market of responsible wood products demand (coming from legal and/or certified forest practices) to contribute to preserve forests.
