Climate Change Impacts in the Amazon - Review of scientific literature

Posted on 21 March 2006

Climate change and deforestation could convert the majority of the Amazon rainforest into savanna, with massive impacts on the world’s biodiversity and climate.
WWF presented this review of scientific literature on climate change impacts on the Amazon at the 8th UN Conference of the Parties to the Biodiversity Convention.
The amount of Amazon rainforest under federal protection will triple to 500,000 km2 through the ARPA programme.
