While undesirable, policy makers in the past have claimed that the extension of the frontier is needed to satisfy the need of agricultural commodities of the population. WWF Myanmar has been working on the development of sustainable managed agroforestry where farmers can develop diversified agricultural portfolios, and, via the right use of ecosystem services, the status of degraded ecosystems can be recovered.
