Trustee from Norway
Johan Rostoft is the Treasurer of WWF International and was formerly Chair of WWF-Norway between 2012 and 2017.
After completing his engineering degree, Johan Rostoft worked as a consultant in McKinsey & Company. His main focus was within the financial services and Internet industries, where he worked on business development, growth- and internationalisation strategies, post-merger management, and valuations. Following his role as a consultant, Johan took up a position in Save the Children, where he worked with corporate relations and on strategy.
For the last ten years, Johan has been working for Telenor. He has held various positions, both in Norway and abroad, including several Board positions in Telenor subsidiaries and JVs. From 2010 to 2012, he headed Consumer Market in Telenor Denmark, and, from 2013 to 2015, he was Senior Vice President and Advisor to the CEO of Telenor Group. During that period, he was also associate member of the Telenor Group executive management team.
Johan is currently Senior Vice-President in Telenor as well as Managing Director of 701Search Pte. Ltd., a leading developer of online marketplaces in South East Asia. 701Search is based in Singapore and runs the main online marketplaces in Malaysia (Mudah), Vietnam (ChoTot), and Myanmar (OneKyat). In total, the group serves close to 20 million monthly users across multiple platforms and verticals, and each site is among the leading Internet businesses in its home market. 701Search is owned by the Telenor Group. Telenor is also a minority shareholder in OLX Indonesia and invests in early-stage marketplaces companies in other regions as part of its online marketplace business.
Johan Rostoft holds a Master degree in Politics of the World Economy from London School of Economics (LSE). Key components of the degree are International Political Economy, Politics of International Trade, Politics of Money in the World Economy. He also holds the equivalent of a MSc. in Engineering from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). The degree was earned through a combination of academic studies at NTNU and University of California, Berkeley.
Prior to his engineering studies, Johan completed the two-year Officer Cadet School of the Royal Norwegian Navy, and he achieved the rank of Sub-Lieutenant.
He is married with two children.
