Mission - Global Oceans Practice
The WWF Global Oceans Practice aims to unite WWF Offices around the delivery of a common oceans strategy to advance and secure productive and resilient ocean ecosystems, sustaining human well-being and conserving biodiversity.
Major Functions:
The person will work with the Oceans Practice core team, national focal points, partnership and fundraising communities, Conservation Directors and Country Directors to develop proposals, concepts and strategic content focused around the practice initiatives and aligned with practice priorities. The role includes accelerating the development, design and funding of high-quality global initiatives to deliver WWF’s Practice Outcomes and Global Goals.
 
  1. Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide leadership and support to resourcing and implementation of Ocean Practice initiatives and strategic priorities that are country-driven, using the appropriate templates, systems and processes, including clear theory of change; monitoring and evaluation, indicators, social safeguards and learning processes.
  • Provide thought leadership and support to initiative strategy development and implementation, such as development of country and landscape specific initiative strategies, revising and updating initiative narratives and cases for support and facilitating monitoring and evaluation plans.
  • Maintain a strategic horizon scan function for resource mobilisation for Initiatives and other Oceans Practice priorities by brokering, identifying, enabling, and supporting new resourcing opportunities with the WWF network relationship managers and existing and new partners.
  • Establish and maintain a fundraising tracking system for Oceans Practice initiatives and create fundraising assets and collateral e.g. cases for support, proposals, or other fundraising products for external use.
  • Serve as a key liaison between Initiative teams and the Fundraising, Public Sector Partnerships, and Corporate Partnerships leadership and their communities.
  • Support WWF Network office relationship managers and country partnership colleagues to strategically plan for and inform external donor influencing in line with Practice priorities, including multilateral and bilateral donor strategies and programming such as that for GCF, GEF, ADB, and the EU;
  • As requested, support the Practice Leader and Deputy with operational coordination for the Practice.
Required Qualifications:
  • 8-10 years of relevant professional experience in program development and coordinating, developing and writing funding proposals and/or communications materials.
  • Post-graduate qualification in Environmental/Conservation Science, International Development, Fundraising and/or Communications, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Experience of working in an international, matrix organisation.
  • Proven track record of managing internal and external multi-cultural stakeholders to influence and drive change;
  • Fluent English and any other language/s would be an asset.
Required Skills and Competencies:
  • Proven ability to create donor friendly materials including experience in grant/proposal and donor report writing and understanding of the principles of communications and fundraising, especially donor needs.
  • Knowledge of fundraising principles and practises.
  • Experience facilitating the development of compelling program ideas.
  • Strong ability to bring together and inspire various teams for impact delivery.
  • Entrepreneurial approach and an eye for spotting innovation.
  • Ability to clearly communicate a compelling and inspired vision through writing and presentations;
  • Effectiveness in developing and managing partnerships;
  • Passion for conservation and adherence to WWF’s values, which are:

Working Relationships:
Internal – Works closely with the Practice Leader, Core and Leadership Teams, Initiative Leads, Practice Focal Points, and the Fundraising and Partnerships Communities of Practice. Also regular contact with the other Practice Proposal Development Managers.
External – Key role in liaising with partners, including the development of joint fundraising proposals and initiatives; also with proposal development/fundraising consultants, and occasional direct contact with focal points in funding agencies.
