Mission of the Department:

The Governance Practice focuses on three large transformational governance outcomes: Inclusive Conservation, Reduction of Environmental Corruption, and Integrated Development, with particular focus on Sustainable Infrastructure and the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda. The Governance Practice works with other Practices, the WWF network and a broad range of stakeholders and partners to build powerful coalitions to help achieve the SDGs and deliver against WWF 2030 global goals.

Major Functions:

Work closely with the Governance Practice Leader to provide strategic guidance and thought leadership within the areas of Reducing Environmental Corruption and Sustainable Infrastructure, including in their links to reversing biodiversity loss and effectively advancing climate change mitigation and adaptation.
Identify and engage influential actors and institutions to influence the global agenda within the topic areas described above.
Ensure close collaboration with the Global Conservation Director and Global Policy Coordination Support Unit to ensure coordinated engagement with major cross-Practice global policy processes as relevant.
Build internal awareness, knowledge and engagement within the WWF Network.
Understand and analyze global trends and provide strategic guidance to WWF and its partners in engaging on the governance topics mentioned. 
Identify strategic opportunities and engage major actors and institutions and processes related to these topics with a view to influencing policy and implementation.
Work with the WWF network and its partners to develop innovative tools, approaches and coalitions that can accelerate the delivery of WWF’s global goals and outcomes.
Lead/support coordination of WWF Areas of Collaboration and Innovation (ACAI) on Environmental Corruption and on Sustainable Infrastructure.
Work with WWF offices and partners to support the development of large scale proposals that can leverage funding and support for delivering the work of this practice.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide strategic guidance and thought leadership within the  specific areas of governance listed above.
Lead and define strategy to co-design solutions and develop new proposals with recognized expert partners.
Support development and start-up of specific initiatives to deliver on topic objectives.
Support the Governance Practice Leader in the development of multi-sectoral coalitions on environmental crime & corruption and on sustainable infrastructure.
Develop common tools, approaches and multi-sectoral coalitions that accelerate the roll out of actions to reduce environmental corruption and to promote sustainable infrastructure and to achieve related SDG targets.
Influence and support WWF International and partners, within their sphere of expertise, to create scalable platforms to convene civil society organizations and communities.
Work with other relevant governance experts to foster and establish new alliances and coalitions. 
Support WWF communities of practitioners through leading/supporting Areas of Collaboration and Innovation.
Act as a point of reference and expertise for Focal points and other Practices.

Profile:

Required Qualifications:

University Degree in International Relations, Political Science, Sustainable development or other related fields.
Knowledge and experience in Infrastructure governance is highly desirable.
Relevant post graduate qualification desirable.
Perfect command of English language and any other language/s an asset. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Effective interpersonal and networking skills.

Required Skills and Competencies:

Ability to understand and analyze global geopolitical dynamics and trends in governance and guide network strategy.
Specific expertise in one or both of the following areas: Infrastructure governance and planning or Environmental crime and corruption.
Demonstrated experience in building large scale coalitions, alliances or platforms that leverage the capacity of all partners towards a change agenda.
A network of external relationships that extends beyond the current WWF reach with evidence of agility in action combined with an optimistic yet realistic approach.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to engage and connect with a broad range of people, and work as part of a multi-dimensional team that cuts across the WWF Network.
Able to navigate complex issues and organizational complexity and execute high quality work in a timely way.
Positive influence to galvanize the Network stakeholder around a shared agenda.
Identifies with the values of the WWF organization, Courage, Integrity, Respect & Collaboration;

Working Relationships:

Internal – Works closely with the Governance Practice Leader, Governance Practice team and Focal Points/interested Practice members. Global Conservation Director, Policy & Advocacy co-ordination team.  Maintains close liaison with the broader Network.

External –United Nations Organs and Agencies (UNDP, UNEP, UNIDO, UNODC),OECD, Regional Economic Communities, Regional and National Development Agencies, Development organizations- NGOs and bi-laterals with highly developed governance practices or centers, Think tanks and other global conservation and other organizations.
